The background music should play through your entire slide show. If the music is shorter than the duration of the slide show, it should loop and play again. It may take a couple of seconds for the sound to reload.
If you added a sound from your desktop, I would try using one of the sounds that are provided in Wixie.
If you are on an iPad, I would try quitting other applications that are running.
